Our New Senior School Day

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a balanced and enriching experience for every student, the Senior School Day has been updated for the new School year. The new structure, shown in the timetable below, builds on what already works well while creating space for students to take advantage of even more opportunities across the School.

Continuity for our students

Although the format has been refined, the overall shape and flow of the day remain reassuringly familiar, ensuring continuity and a smooth transition for students. Please see the timetable below or click here.

More time for extra-curricular activities

One of the key enhancements is the additional time dedicated to extra‑curricular activities. This adjustment allows students to immerse themselves more fully in the breadth of experiences that define the Erskine Stewart Melville journey – from sport, music, and the arts to academic societies and leadership programmes. These opportunities play a central role in helping our students develop confidence, character, and a strong sense of belonging.

More opportunities for Sport

The new Senior School PE and Sport programme is closely aligned with the highly successful model already in place at The Mary Erskine School, whilst still allowing for the same access to sports provision after school that presently exists at Stewart’s Melville College. One key change is that from August 2026 the Senior School will no longer have Games Afternoons, although they will have more timetabled PE lessons within the school day. These will be replaced with Extra-Curricular Clubs, with sports teams having the same opportunities for training. These will start at the end of the school day and be located around all of the ESM sites, making the most of our facilities.

Students will have the choice to attend a variety of activities Monday to Friday. Our Saturday sports will be a major part of the offering alongside a variety of other team, group, and individual activities promoting both performance and participation.

This approach allows students to enjoy a wider breadth of sports across the school week, while still supporting high performance for those who wish to specialise and compete at an advanced level.
