Community Update: 21 March 2025

Dear Parents

I hope this message finds you well. It is hard to believe we are nearly at the end of term and what a fantastic term it has been. I will be sharing some of the highlights with you in next week’s newsletter, but in the meantime, I would like to provide a brief update on the move to co-ed.

Uniform

Thank you to all parents who have taken the time to complete our uniform survey. The survey will close on Monday, so if you haven’t yet filled it in and would like to do so, please click on the link and complete it by Sunday 23 March. Your input, along with the feedback we received from students and staff, will be invaluable in informing our approach to uniform. Timings on decisions around uniform are now being finalised, including details on focus groups. We will provide more information on the uniform strategy, timings and next steps after the Easter break.

Update on the sale of 5-9 Queensferry Terrace

5-9 Queensferry Terrace is now on the market. We have had considerable interest so far and are preparing for the move, including the relocation of the Thrift shop. We know the Thrift Shop is an important part of our school community, so we will provide a further update on its new location as soon as the details have been finalised. The sale of 5-9 Queensferry Terrace will enable us to reinvest funds in the areas that matter most – the educational resources and opportunities that benefit our students.

We are delighted, however, to be welcoming some of our former Mary Erskine boarders into the building today and tomorrow for a final tour, offering them a last chance to see the building that was their home away from home during their time at the School. Members of staff who work in the building have been enjoying watching the former pupils roaming the halls of their old boarding house and listening to stories of their time there.

Evening parent event to share update on our move to co-ed

Last week, we invited you to share any questions or concerns you have regarding the move to co-education and the relocation of P4-7 to Ravelston. We had intended to answer your questions in a recorded presentation, but there were so many thoughtful and important questions that we decided to hold live parent events instead. These events will be throughout the summer term with dates and timings to be announced soon. In the meantime, we will continue to update our website with new questions and answers. Please keep your eye out for invitations to our parent events.

Kind regards

Anthony Simpson
